FG Launches TVET Programme, to Pay N22,500 Monthly to Trainees

Abuja, Nigeria – 2nd  June 2025
The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially launched a new Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme aimed at empowering Nigerian youths with industry-relevant skills while offering them monthly financial support during their training.

The initiative, which falls under the Federal Ministry of Education’s TVET Expansion Strategy, is designed to provide short-term, hands-on training in key vocational sectors such as leatherwork, fashion design, electrical installation, ICT, agriculture, welding, carpentry, and more. As part of the support mechanism, each enrolled trainee will receive a monthly stipend of N22,500 to ease the financial burden of learning and encourage full participation.

According to the Minister of Education, [Insert Minister’s Name], the programme seeks to bridge the gap between education and employment by equipping Nigerian youths with practical skills that match the evolving demands of the job market.

“We understand that many young Nigerians are willing to learn but lack the financial support to do so. This TVET programme is our commitment to solving that problem. The N22,500 monthly support is not just an incentive it is a strategic investment in our youth and the country’s economic future,” the Minister stated.

The launch event, held in Abuja, was attended by stakeholders from the education sector, industry experts, representatives from state technical boards, and development partners. The programme is aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and will be implemented in collaboration with state-owned technical schools and accredited private training centers across the country.

The Federal Government noted that pilot implementation will begin in selected states including Edo, Lagos, Kano, and Enugu, with a gradual rollout to cover all six geopolitical zones in the country.

In Edo State, for instance, a successful partnership with the Edo State Board for Technical and Vocational Education has already set the stage for high-impact short courses. Organizations currently working with the Board expressed optimism about scaling up their efforts with federal support.

One of the training partners, [Insert Organization Name], praised the government’s intervention, saying, “This monthly stipend will remove the burden of school fees and transportation, allowing more young people to focus on learning and acquiring life-changing skills.”

The TVET initiative is expected to reduce youth unemployment, promote self-reliance, and drive the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across Nigeria.

Interested applicants are encouraged to stay updated via the Ministry of Education’s official channels for enrollment procedures and eligibility criteria.
